Anticipations During Childbirth
Upon arriving at the hospital one evening, my husband and I were filled with excitement as we prepared to welcome our fourth child. Our family had indeed become “remarkably large.”
Interestingly, our second and third children are twins, a surprise since there had never been twins in our family before. With the subsequent pregnancy, the familiar joke within our family arose: “What if they’re twins again?” The prospect thrilled and frightened us at the same time!
However, the fourth little “ninja” arrived on their own. Once everything was settled, we found ourselves in a private room, which my husband had pre-paid.
A few hours later, I was brought my newborn for breastfeeding. Shortly afterward, the head physician entered with a concerned look and said, “We have a small issue…”
This morning, a young lady of 18 gave birth to a baby girl, wrote a statement, and took a taxi to leave the hospital.
Although she struggled to walk after giving birth, she was determined to leave without lingering. We had to respect her choice.
The child is absolutely beautiful and healthy. I thought about how much she had wished for twins. I considered, perhaps you would take this little one?
“We could write that you gave birth to her…” she replied, “I cannot bear the thought of the baby ending up in an orphanage. What kind of life is that for a child? It breaks my heart… Of course, it’s illegal.”
There’s a possibility of launching an official adoption process, but that could take months, and there’s no certainty involved. Until then, the baby would stay in an orphanage.
It’s disheartening… Honestly, I was quite shaken. I knew the head nurse, Ljudmila Stepanovna, well. She was incredibly nice and friendly. We had shared conversations outside of the hospital too.
Maybe that’s why she approached me with this delicate proposal.
Key Insight: The complexities of emotion and legality during such vulnerable times can lead to unexpected decisions and proposals.
Ultimately, while the child’s future hangs in the balance, the compassion and moral dilemmas involved continue to resonate deeply.
