At the young age of 23, Dmitry Ivanov appeared to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders, looking far older than his years.

Despite these positive changes, a gnawing unease lingered. Elena remained distant, often secluded in her study, poring over documents he wasn’t permitted to see. One day, he caught a glimpse of her distressed expression while she held a letter through a slightly ajar door.
That evening, she handed him a sealed envelope.
“It is time for you to understand why I chose you,” she instructed.
Inside were a letter and an official document revealing that Elena was terminally ill.
With no family or heirs, she decided to bequeath her fortune to him and entrust him with the management of her legacy—a foundation dedicated to education and social welfare.
“I saw something rare in you—honesty and resilience,” she wrote. “You stayed true to yourself through hardships.”
The document granted him legal control over her assets and the foundation. Confused, Dmitry asked why she hadn’t chosen a professional.
Elena replied earnestly:
“Most only think of themselves. But you wanted nothing, yet were ready to sacrifice everything for your loved ones.”
Getting involved with the foundation revealed the extensive work Elena had accomplished, aiding countless individuals, families, and communities. He met beneficiaries whose lives had significantly improved thanks to her efforts.
Elena’s health rapidly worsened. In their final discussions, she shared her regrets and emphasized that true wealth comes from the positive impact one leaves behind.
“Do not be afraid,” she whispered before taking her last breath. “You have everything it takes.”
Following her death, the mansion felt empty. In mourning, Dmitry discovered one last letter:
“I do not seek perfection—only that you do your best. Let your heart guide you.”
Motivated, Dmitry devoted himself fully to the foundation’s mission. He proposed to the board to broaden their initiatives to help youth like himself—those burdened by struggles yet brimming with potential.
