Baylee Littrell Shines on American Idol: More Than Just a Backstreet Legacy
One of the most talked-about auditions this American Idol season comes from none other than Baylee Littrell — and for good reason. If the last name sounds familiar, it’s because Baylee is the son of Backstreet Boys legend Brian Littrell, who hinted at his son’s appearance on the show back in early February.

“I recently tried out for @americanidol,” Baylee revealed on social media, teasing fans to tune into the March 9, 2025 premiere to see what unfolds.

The news stirred a mix of excitement and skepticism. After all, Baylee has been performing most of his life. At just nine years old, he was already sharing the stage with his dad’s iconic boy band, opening shows and charming fans. He even earned a Broadway credit with a role in Disaster! — all before his teenage years.

But Baylee wasn’t content to ride the coattails of his father’s fame. He found his own musical path, focusing on country music as both a singer and songwriter. In 2019, he released his debut album, 770-Country, and even opened for Chris Lane and the Backstreet Boys during their DNA World Tour.

Some fans questioned whether someone like Baylee needed American Idol — a platform traditionally known for launching newcomers. But many, including new judge Carrie Underwood, were eager to witness the young artist’s journey.

As Baylee entered the audition room, Carrie’s curiosity was piqued. “There’s something familiar about you,” she said, not yet aware of his connection to Brian.

Backstage, Brian shared his own feelings about the moment:

“It’s not easy,” he admitted. “But I’ve always told people—he’s ten times more talented than I ever was.”

Then came the performance. Baylee sang an original song that left the judges visibly moved.

“You’re seriously talented,” Carrie said with admiration. “You connected with the emotion of the song, and that’s what this competition is about.”

To everyone’s delight, Brian later joined his son for a brief duet, creating a heartwarming father-son moment. “Honestly, it doesn’t even overshadow you,” Carrie added. “You held your own.”

All three judges were impressed — and Baylee was unanimously voted through to Hollywood.

But Baylee’s story is more than his last name or his stage experience. At six years old, he was diagnosed with Kawasaki Syndrome, a rare condition that inflames blood vessels and, if untreated, can cause serious heart issues.

“We had no idea what was going on until doctors discovered his coronary artery was three times the normal size,” Brian shared in a 2009 interview. Baylee had been hospitalized with a high fever, a full-body rash, and painful throat ulcers. After a two-week diagnostic journey, he was treated swiftly — and made a full recovery.

Baylee Littrell has faced challenges, chased dreams, and carved out his own place in the world of music. Now, he’s taking the next big step on American Idol — and we can’t wait to see where it leads him.
